Former Vice President Cheney
This should brighten your day. Seriously though, does former Vice President Cheney have a point?
Former Vice President Dick Cheney warned that there is a “high probability” that terrorists will attempt a catastrophic nuclear or biological attack in coming years, and said he fears the Obama administration’s policies will make it more likely the attempt will succeed.
In an interview Tuesday with Politico, Cheney unyieldingly defended the Bush administration’s support for the Guantanamo Bay prison and coercive interrogation of terrorism suspects.
And he asserted that President Obama will either backtrack on his stated intentions to end those policies or put the country at risk in ways more severe than most Americans — and, he charged, many members of Obama’s own team — understand.
“When we get people who are more concerned about reading the rights to an Al Qaeda terrorist than they are with protecting the United States against people who are absolutely committed to do anything they can to kill Americans, then I worry,” Cheney said.
Protecting the country’s security is “a tough, mean, dirty, nasty business,” he said. “These are evil people. And we’re not going to win this fight by turning the other cheek.”
Citing intelligence reports, Cheney said at least 61 of the inmates who were released from Guantanamo during the Bush administration — “that’s about 11 or 12 percent” — have “gone back into the business of being terrorists.”

I'd love an original photo of Obama
Is anyone going to the inauguration? If so, I’d love to see/post your pictures and videos. HuffPost is asking readers to do the same thing. I have a slight feeling that they’ll be getting more pictures that HipTics, but don’t let that stop you from sending an e-mail to cjf at hiptics dot com. -Cfro

Certified!
The Boston Globe hopped on the bandwagon.
On his third and finest CD in 16 short months, the Florida-based MC has emerged as one of hip-hop’s best by dropping unvarnished, aggressive songs with unsparing detail…Plies spins tales of those left behind by the American injustice system (“2nd Chance”) or his own AIDS- and crack-riddled family (the riveting “Family Straight”). The ‘hood anthem “Pants Hang Low” is pure defiance and won’t win him favor with Barack Obama. Whether you buy all this as the definition of real is immaterial; it sounds true, and in hip-hop that’s all that matters.

Play it cool, America.
I subsrcribe to TechCrunch’s daily e-mail updates because I’m a nerd like that. Hiptics has e-mail updates, too. Just saying.
I skimmed through an article by Michael Arrington about his experience in Paris at the Le Web Conference. He made some comments about the post-Bush perception of America that I could relate to as an American currently living in Europe. (I’ll be in Atlanta on Thursday, though!)
As an American I found that I was treated more warmly than any time I’ve visited Europe in the last few years. Obama is on deck, and the Euros like him. America is cool again.

Ready Before Day 1
Did you know that the United States spends 623 billion per year on military expenditures? Do you know how much the whole world (except the USA) spends annually on military expenditures? About 500 billion. Even if we didn’t have a military; there are 12 guns for every 1 citizen in America. It’s tough to say this without sounding arrogant, but America is bad ass. Looks like President-elect Obama will not be changing our geopolitical status, however I believe he will be more responsible in his decision making (when it comes to using military force).
