Notorious Documentary! Biggie Smalls is the Illest

January 29, 2009 · 2 Comments

My buddy Jed who works for Rocdarling Films turned me on to this. They are working on a new documentary, Biggie Smalls is the Illest

It’s filled with never before seen footage from one of Biggie’s closest friends D-Roc, and i am excited to get my hands on a copy of it. It looks like it will let us see a side of biggie not often captured on camera before his untimely death.

Rocdarling has made some impressive films. Their 2007 film Life After Death- The Movie, got solid reviews.

This true story is told solely from unseen home video footage from the crew and takes us through the “Golden Age” of New York hip hop with archive footage of hip hop’s biggest stars. Includes actual security survilence footage of the HOT 97 shootout and an end-all interview with D-Roc, who refused to testify in court for his alleged involvement in the shootout and until now, declined to be interviewed.

Narrated by actor JAMIE HECTOR notably known for his role as “Marlo Standfield” in HBO’s THE WIRE. Starring Diddy, Lil’ Kim, Junior Mafia, Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z, Mase and more…

I can’t wait to see it! – JHScherck

I decided to do a content analysis of Ready To Die in order to determine what foods got shout outs in Notorious B.I.G. rhymes. Why? Because I don’t think it’s ever been done. Biggie Smalls is the illest. -Cfro

Can OBAMA CHANGE Ghetto Culture?

January 25, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Obama is change

Everybody is depending on President Obama

Check out this interesting piece by Deroy Murdock

Item: Amid crisp breezes and bright sunshine, Barack Obama took the presidential oath Tuesday, to the thunderous applause of his supporters, the cautious hopes of the loyal opposition and the well wishes of all Americans.

Item: Three days earlier, four men were stabbed, one critically, at a Brooklyn party celebrating “Notorious,” the new movie about rapper Notorious B.I.G. He released the album “Ready to Die” before being killed in Los Angeles in 1997. Rapper Jamal “Gravy” Woolard – who portrays B.I.G. – was charged with misdemeanor assault and harassment against his wife last September, the New York Post reports. “She wouldn’t stop pushing me, so I snuffed her,” he allegedly said.

Question: Will Obama’s erudition and elegance finally eclipse the corrosive, often deadly scourge of hip-hop culture and the ghetto mentality that gnaw away like termites beneath black America’s floorboards?

ASHER Roth SUCKS Compared To NOTORIOUS B.I.G.

January 16, 2009 · 6 Comments

So last night I was up watching Bigger Than Life, a documentary about the life and career of The Notorious B.I.G. aka Biggie Smalls.  During a commercial break I switched over to one of MTVs random channels (MTVu) right as Asher Roth was about to perform. I thought I owed it to the guy to watch considering I’ve been real critical of his career choices.

Dude comes out wearing basketball shorts, a college sweatshirt, and one of those flannel hats with the ear muffs attached. He starts singing the chorus to “I Love College” with the back-up vocals making his singing bearable. The song, in case you also don’t listen to pussy-rap, is an ode to all things beer pong. To quote part of Asher’s first verse:

“i wanna go to college for the rest of my life/sip bankers club and drink miller lite/
on thirsty thursday and tuesday night ice/and i can get pizza a dollar a slice/
so fill up my cup/lets get fucked up/im next on the table/who want what
i am champion at beer pong/allen iverson hakeem olajuwon/”

At first the crowd seemed somewhat amused, but after about 18 seconds it was clear that Asher Roth sucks at performing. He kept trying to get the crowd to wave along with him, which they willingly did at first, but then he did it again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again. Finally the Cool Kids came out and sorta saved him, but they weren’t much more impressive on stage. I switched back to BET for Bigger Than Life, and was quickly reminded how Biggie would lyrically murder this new era of rappers who wear Louis Vuitton bags, tight jeans, and flannel hats with ear muffs attached. B.I.G. could do it all and he had the stage precense to back it up. He also wasn’t marketed as a drunk frat bro. -Cfro
